The Ultimate Raw Food Breakfast

This is a Swiss RAW FOOD Original and is prepared the night before to be ready in minutes in the morning.

Dr. Bircher-Benner was a physician in the 1900’s who saw his patients’ health condition improve after eating raw fruits, grains and vegetables versus roasted meats, breads and sugary preserves.

The idea is that too much roasted meats, breads and sugars create an acidic environment in the body and in turn causes the body to start breaking down. The raw foods, which are full of enzymes and untainted vitamins and minerals, help the body get back into balance.

Want to give it a try?

Either try Dr. Bircher-Benner’s recipe for raw bircher muesli ;-) or you can try my “new age” version with things like chia seeds and cacao nibs.

New Age Bircher Muesli by Vanessa

New Age Bircher Muesli by Vanessa

This is literally my breakfast every day during the week. On the weekend I go for a warm breakfast with eggs and the works ;-) This is new age style, because of the addition of omega 3s (from the chia/flax seeds,) probiotics (from the bifidus yogurt or kefir) and cacao nibs!

1) The night before… Mix the following in a bowl or mason jar and set in the fridge overnight to soak.

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup milk or rice milk
  • ½ lemon juice squeezed out (optional)
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • A tablespoons of chia seeds or flax seeds
  • 1-2 tablespoons of cacao nibs

2) In the morning mix in the following fresh ingredients.

  • 1/2 cup bifidus yogurt (or kefir)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Handful of fresh strawberries chopped
  • A spoon of your best organic honey

3) Holy moly, I love this breakfast! Enjoy for great digestion and a happy belly.

Let me know what you try and how it makes you feel… I’m listening!
